Logistics Operations Management.

Course description

Nowadays, no organization operates in isolation: contemporary organizations are part of (often global) networks of suppliers, producers, distributors, retailers, and consumers that make up a 'supply chain. This course is aimed to help students understand the role of companies in such a network consisting of (international) suppliers, distributors, logistics providers, and buyers. The course is also intended to give students skills and knowledge in all aspects and issues of Logistics Operations Management These include an understanding of Incoterms and their application, international payment methods, transport and modal selection, logistics intermediaries, cargo logistics development, and customs clearance management.

Course objectives

The overall course objective is for students to gain skills and knowledge in all aspects and issues of logistics operations management

  • To develop the knowledge and skills of the global logistics management and monitoring requirements, from the manufacturer to the end-user and their different levels.
  • To understand and monitor the impact of cargo documentation and transport selection to trade and their integration with other business functions.
  • To understand and assess and monitor the different levels of global logistic intermediaries and their role in the early supplier involvement and just-in-time requirements.
  • To equip the international and the national customs procedures and valuation methods, along with the harmonized system codes for classifying the trading goods.
  • To equip standardized customs clearance procedures and customs duty calculations with an automated tax calculator to clear the shipments with the least time and cost while complying with and following the customs regulations
